Hey guides ! :D

How are your test results? If you have been consistently working hard and produced good results, then, good job! However, if you did not perform up to standard, please do not give up as it is only one quarter of the race!

Anyway, i am blogging here (first time !) not to poke around but to inform you about the emergency helper proficiency badge. If you are interested in learning first aid skills or just adding an extra proficiency badge to your sleeve, you can consider working on the emergency helper badge.

The criteria are as follow: (To prepare yourself for the test, please do the necessary research works. )

1) Pack a suitcase kit suitable for hiking ( For those who passed the first aid kit testwork before, by preparing your own first aid kit, this should be no problem)

2) Demonstrate how to deal with the following injuries:
- bleeding from an external wound
-burns and scalds
-blisters
-insect bites
-sunburn/dehydration
-fractures

3) Know how to
-take temperature and pulse
-clean and dress a wound
-deal with fire and electircal appliances
-deal with a person with shock
-treat a patient unconscious from fit
-ways of improvising a stretcher and of carrying a patient and is able to demonstrate it to untrained helpers

4) Understand the danger of moving and handling an unconscious person or whose the extent of injury is not known and know the steps taken to prevent further injury.

5) Using a manikin / mask, demonstrate the procedure for CPR.

It requires a lot of knowledge about first aid, definately. But, those skills are really vital during emergency times. I urge all of you to work on this badge as we do not know when disaster strike or when you may be face in critical situations that require first aid skills.

If you are interested, leave a message at the tagboard, so that Mrs Chung can arrange for an ex-student, now a qualified nurse, to come and test us for the badge. ( Only if response is good ) If response is not that good .... then, he may not come down to test us.

PS. Please spread around to the other guides, and keep the tag coming if you are interested.
PSS. Please reply by Friday (13May)
